Profile: Alistair Crannis

Alistair Crannis

Alistair Crannis joined the General Bearing team in January 1997, as General Manager of the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer’s) Division. In this role, he displayed strong management, creative and organizational effectiveness, and in June of 1999, was elevated to Vice President of Sales & Marketing. This promotion expanded his responsibilities to management of not only the OEM Division but the Distributor Division, as well.

His specific detailed knowledge of a wide variety of industries, along with the Industrial Distribution market, has greatly enhanced the General Bearing organization.

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Alistair exudes all the charm of an English Nobleman, but under the surface lies a serious, highly motivated goal-oriented professional. Graduating from the University of Hertfordshire, England in 1971, he earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. During this time he participated in a co-op program with Hoffman Manufacturing. He joined RHP as a Graduate Marketing Trainee in the Bearings Division in Essex. His value to the organization was soon recognized and he became the Sales Office Manager, at their Automotive Division in Yorkshire. Still working for RHP, Alistair accepted a position as Regional Sales Manager in Barcelona, and thus began a career in international sales and marketing. Following his three and one half years in Spain he was offered the position of Marketing Director of RHP’s Precision Bearing unit. Over the next nine years this operation grew to become the most profitable business unit within the company due to Alistiar’s implementation of strategic marketing plans for key product segments to ensure long term business growth. He was twice awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Export Achievement (1982 and 1988). In January 1994, Alistair was offered the position of Vice President of RHP’s Division of NSK Corporation, located in Amherst, Ohio. This sales and marketing division was part of an American subsidiary of a multi-billion dollar international manufacturer of bearings and automotive components.

There you have the story of Alistair’s exceptional background. We, at General Bearing, consider ourselves quite fortunate to have acquired someone like Alistair, who embodies the expertise required to get the job done.

Alistair, his wife, Anne, and their two sons, live in Highland Mills, New York. His favorite activities are golf and white-water kayaking. He's also fluent in Spanish, and his professional affiliations include the American Bearing Manufacturer's Association (ABMA) and the American Management Association (AMA).

Alistair's goal at General Bearing is to see the company double in size. “As a broad range manufacturer, we have a team of highly trained professionals who are able to provide the necessary focus and attention.”
