WEST NYACK, NY -- January 24, 2002--General Bearing Corporation (Nasdaq:GNRL) a leading manufacturer and distributor of industrial bearings and bearing components, today announced the appointment of Corby W. Self to Vice President, Ball and Roller Operations.
The Company reported that Self, an executive with an extensive background in operations and quality, will oversee General Bearing's manufacturing and sales operations for balls and rollers. He will work closely with Jiangsu General Ball and Roller Company, Ltd. (JGBR), a China-based subsidiary of the Company. The Company said that Self will initially focus on the continuing development of plant processes and capabilities as well as increasing market share for JGBR in Asia, Europe and the US. During his time with a former partner in JGBR, Self gained an excellent understanding of the operations of the Jiangsu plants.
Prior to this appointment, Self spent eleven years at NN, Inc., a manufacturer of precision steel balls and rollers. There, he progressed from Quality Management to Operations Management, with full responsibility for four plants. His early experience included quality management positions with Eaton Corporation and CMI Corporation. Self holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Management from Johnson and Wales University and is a certified ASQ Quality Engineer.

General Bearing holds a majority interest in JGBR, China’s largest steel ball manufacturer. JGBR operates from five facilities totaling 300,000 square feet, three of which have been newly constructed since General Bearing acquired the company two years ago.
General Bearing manufactures ball bearings, tapered roller bearings, spherical roller bearings and cylindrical roller bearings.
