Shanghai General Bearing Company, Shanghai, China Earns ISO-9002 Certification
West Nyack, NY-March 4,1998-General Bearing Corporation (Nasdaq: GNRL) announced today that its West Nyack headquarters has achieved certification to the prestigious Quality Assurance standard QS-9000 and the international standard ISO-9001. GBC also announced that Shanghai General Bearing Company, Ltd., its joint venture in China, achieved certification to the international standard ISO-9002. Shanghai General Bearing is one of the few bearing manufacturers in China to have achieved this recognition.
QS-9000 is a quality standard that was jointly developed in 1994 by Chrysler, Ford and General Motors to harmonize fundamental quality system expectations for automotive industry suppliers.
ISO-9000 standards were developed and copyrighted by the International Organization for Standardization. They are used worldwide and are the most recognized quality systems in industry today.
General Bearing President David L. Additionally, General Bearing Corporation's West Nyack facility has been recertified to the Association of American Railroads M1003 quality standard for its Tapered Journal Bearings for the railroad industry. The AAR's Quality Assurance Committee has determined that M1003 certification is equivalent to the requirements of ISO-9001. This recertification was received on December 19, 1997.
